Welcome to Our Wild Life
I’m so glad you’re here. If you’re looking for me, check under the nearest Cedar tree, by the edge of a muddy creek, or chasing a very determined toddler down the side of a wooded ravine.
For as long as I can remember, the natural world has been where I’ve thrived. It’s where I go to breathe, to think, and to feel truly human. But since becoming a parent, “the great outdoors” has taken on an entirely new meaning. Through the eyes of my toddler, a simple gravel trail becomes a mountain range, and a single river rock is a treasure worth holding in her hand for the rest of our time outside and then bringing home.
Why We’re Always Outside
I started this blog because I believe that childhood—and parenthood—is better when it’s a little bit dirty and a lot more green. In a world that feels increasingly fast and digital, the woods offer us the ultimate slow-down, and writing offers me a way to express the tough days, both inside and outside.
On these pages, you’ll find:
The Reality of Adventure: From sunset hikes to the “we didn’t make it 100 yards” rainy day walks, and the rain tends to happen a lot in the PNW, though we try to not let that stop us.
Nature-Led Parenting: How the rhythms of the seasons help me find patience and perspective.
Gear & Tips: Practical advice for staying warm, dry, and happy while exploring with a tiny human.
Small Wonders: Celebrating the bugs, the moss, and the quiet magic of our local ecosystems, and those a little further away.
The Philosophy
To me, nature isn’t just a destination or a weekend trip; it’s our most important classroom and our most reliable sanctuary. I’m here to share how we’re trading screen time for sunshine (and occasionally mud puddles), one trail at a time.
“There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing—and a toddler who refuses to wear a hat.”
Thanks for joining our journey. Grab your boots, and let’s head outside!
